On Sunday, September 27, what started as a normal day of skydiving at Skydive Milwaukee quickly became something none of us could have expected.

While one of our jump planes was in the air with a load of experienced skydivers, those on board saw a small aircraft near the East Troy Municipal Airport go down into a field just south of our facility.

Our pilot immediately reported the crash, and with the aircraft down in an area that was difficult to access from the road, several of the skydivers on board realized they were in a unique position to help.

Three of our experienced skydivers made the decision to jump near the crash site. Among them were members of our community with previous emergency medical training. After landing, they made their way through the fields to locate the aircraft and its occupants and began assisting while emergency crews made their way to the scene.

Thankfully, all four people aboard the aircraft survived. Three were transported for medical evaluation, while one was evaluated and released at the scene.

We also want to make clear that the aircraft involved in the crash was not associated with Skydive Milwaukee. The circumstances surrounding the crash are being investigated by the appropriate authorities, and we will leave those details to them.

What we can speak about is the response we witnessed from our own community.

Skydiving is a sport built around trust, training and looking out for the people around you. On Sunday, several members of our community happened to be in the right place at the right time and had both the skills and the willingness to step in when someone needed help.

We couldn't be prouder of the jumpers and pilot who responded without hesitation.

We're also incredibly grateful to East Troy Fire & Rescue, the Town of East Troy Police Department, the Village of East Troy Police Department, the Walworth County Sheriff's Office, the Walworth County Communications Center, and everyone else who responded and worked together at the scene.

Most importantly, our thoughts remain with the four people aboard the aircraft and their families, and we wish them all the best as they recover.
